The Department of Posts, has officially released the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Online Engagement Schedule-I, January-2026 notification. Through this recruitment drive, applications are invited from eligible Indian citizens for engagement to various Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) positions in postal offices across the country. These include Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak posts.

Important Dates and Application Schedule:

One-Time Registration: 31 January 2026 to 14 February 2026 (up to 5:00 PM)

Online Application Submission & Fee Payment: 02 February 2026 to 16 February 2026 (up to 5:00 PM)

Edit / Correction Window: 18 February 2026 to 19 February 2026 (up to 5:00 PM)

Each candidate can only register one time. If a candidate tries to register than once their application will be cancelled. This can happen at any point in the process. The candidate will not be allowed to proceed if they have registrations, for the same thing. One registration is permitted for each candidate.

Job Profiles of GDS Posts:

Branch Postmaster (BPM):
The Branch Post Master is, in charge of the Branch Post Office. The Branch Post Master has to do a lot of things. These things include taking care of operations handling India Post Payments Bank services helping customers selling postal products moving mail around and supervising Assistant Branch Post Masters when necessary. The Branch Post Master has to live in the village where the Branch Post Office is. They have to find a place to stay before they start working at the Branch Post Office.

Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM):
Assistant Branch Post Masters help the Branch Post Master with postal work. The work of Assistant Branch Post Masters includes selling items delivering mail doing India Post Payments Bank transactions helping customers and doing promotional activities, for the post office. Assistant Branch Post Masters may have to do the work of the Branch Post Master sometimes. They have to live near the post office they work for.

Dak Sevak:
Dak Sevaks work in lots of places like Departmental Offices and Sub Post Offices and Head Post Offices and Railway Mail Service units. Their main job is to deliver mail and sort mail and handle mailbags and help the postmasters with their work.


Salary:

BPM: ₹12,000 to ₹29,380

ABPM / Dak Sevak: ₹10,000 to ₹24,470


Age Limit:

Minimum Age: 18 years

Maximum Age: 40 years (as on last date of application)

Age relaxation is applicable for SC, ST, OBC, and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities as per government norms. No age relaxation is available for EWS candidates.


Educational Qualification:

1. Must have passed Class 10 (Secondary School Examination) from a recognized board.

2. The candidate must have studied the language up to Class 10 because the local language is what the candidate will be using.

3. There are rules for languages in Arunachal Pradesh, Goa and Sikkim. For these places you may need to show a certificate that proves you are good at a language when they check your documents. This is because language proficiency is important, for Arunachal Pradesh, Goa and Sikkim and they want to make sure you can speak the language properly.


Other Mandatory Qualifications:

1. Basic computer knowledge

Reservation Policy:

The Government of India has rules for Reservation that apply to SC candidates ST candidates, OBC candidates, EWS candidates, PwBD candidates and Transgender candidates.

Selection Process:

After successful verification, provisional engagement is offered, followed by mandatory pre-engagement formalities and training. Final engagement is issued after successful verification of certificates and police antecedents.

How to Apply for India Post GDS Recruitment 2026:

Stage 1: Registration

1. The candidate must do a one-time registration first. This is something the candidate has to do before they can move on to the step. The candidate will only have to do this registration one time.

2. You have to register before you can apply for any job post. Registration is necessary, for applying to any post.

3. Each candidate can only register one time. The system will not allow a candidate to register more than once. If a candidate tries to register the system will not accept it. This rule applies to all candidates. Each candidate must follow it to be able to register for the event. One registration, per candidate is permitted.

4. If you register than one time your application, for the position will be completely cancelled. Multiple registrations will cause problems and the result will be that your candidature will be cancelled. Multiple registrations are not allowed all.
