Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) Recruitment 2026: Apply Now for Sub Inspector Posts


The Government of India’s Ministry of Home Affairs has officially released an important recruitment notification for the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). The SSB is inviting online applications from eligible and interested candidates.

This recruitment drive is targeted at filling Group-'B' Non-Gazetted (Combatised) & Non-Ministerial posts for Sub Inspectors. These positions are temporary but are likely to continue, offering selected candidates the opportunity to serve anywhere within or outside the territory of India.

Post Details:

The SSB is looking to fill a total of 51 vacancies across three specialized Sub Inspector categories. Notably, 10% of these overall vacancies are reserved for Ex-Servicemen. If eligible Ex-Servicemen candidates are not available, these reserved vacancies will be filled by non-Ex-Servicemen candidates.

Important Note: A candidate can apply for only one post from the list above. SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidates are permitted to apply against unreserved vacancies if they fulfill the unreserved category eligibility criteria and no vacancies are specifically reserved for them.


Salary and Allowances:

Pay Scale: All three Sub Inspector posts fall under Level-6, with a Basic Pay matrix ranging from Rs. 35,400 to Rs. 1,12,400. 

Allowances: The posts carry Dearness Allowance, Ration Money Allowance, House Rent Allowance, and other allowances as admissible in the SSB per Government orders.

Pension Scheme: Appointees will be covered under the Defined Contributory Pension Scheme (New Pension Scheme) effective from January 1, 2004, or the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) effective from April 1, 2025, according to prevailing government rules.


Eligibility Criteria: 

The crucial date for determining age and all educational qualifications is the closing date for the receipt of applications, which is exactly 30 days from the publication date of this advertisement in the Employment News.

1. Sub Inspector (Staff Nurse): 

Age Limit: Not exceeding 30 years of age.

Education: Must have passed 12th class from a recognized Board or university.

Professional Qualification: Requires a Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery from an institution recognized by the Central or State nursing council. The required duration of this diploma varies based on the year of qualification (e.g., 3 years if qualified before 2008 or after 2015-16 with internship; 3.5 years if qualified between 2008 and 2015-16).

Registration: Must be registered as a General Nurse and Mid-wife with the Central or State nursing council.


2. Sub Inspector (Pioneer):

Age Limit: Not exceeding 30 years of age.

Education: Must hold a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized University or institute.


3. Sub Inspector (Communication):

Age Limit: Not exceeding 30 years of age.

Education: Must hold a Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication, Computer Science, or Information Technology Engineering; OR a Science degree with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from a recognized University or institute.

Standard age relaxations apply for reserved categories, including 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, and up to 3 years for Ex-Servicemen after the deduction of military service.


Selection Process:

The SSB utilizes biometric verification (including thumb impressions and digital photographs) across all stages of the recruitment process.

Stage I: Physical Efficiency Test (PET) & Physical Standard Test (PST)

PET: There is no Physical Efficiency Test (PET) for the posts of Sub Inspector (Staff Nurse) and Sub Inspector (Pioneer). For Sub Inspector (Communication), male candidates must run 1.6 Kms in 6 minutes 30 seconds, and female candidates must run 800 Meters in 4 minutes.

 

PST (Anatomical Standards):

 SI (Pioneer & Communication): Unreserved males require a minimum height of 170 cm with an 80-85 cm chest. Unreserved females require a minimum height of 157 cm.

SI (Staff Nurse): Unreserved males require a minimum height of 165 cm with a 75-80 cm chest. Unreserved females require a minimum height of 155 cm.

Weight: Must be proportionate to height and age for all candidates. Relaxations in height and chest measurements apply to Scheduled Tribes and specific regional demographics.


Stage II: Written Examination (Computer Based Test)

Candidates who clear the PST will sit for a 3-hour Common Entrance Test consisting of 150 multiple-choice objective questions worth 150 marks.

Part-I (50 Marks): General Knowledge, Mathematics, Reasoning, and General English/General Hindi.

Part-II (100 Marks): Technical Subject.

Qualifying Criteria: 50% for Gen/EWS/OBC/Ex-SM and 45% for SC/ST. Final merit is strictly prepared based on the marks obtained in this written examination.


Stage III: Documentation and Detailed Medical Examination

Based on written exam merit, candidates up to 3 times the number of vacancies will be shortlisted for Document Verification (DV) and Detailed Medical Examination (DME) / Review Medical Examination (RME).

Application Fee: UR, EWS, and OBC candidates must pay a non-refundable fee of Rs. 200/- via net-banking, credit card, debit card, or UPI. SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, and female candidates are completely exempted from paying this examination fee.

Digital Requirements: Candidates must ensure their passport-size color photograph (100x120 pixels, 4-12 KB) and signature (140x60 pixels, 4-12 KB, in black or dark blue ink) are uploaded correctly per the specified guidelines.
