The Department of Posts, Government of India has released the official notification for Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Online Engagement Schedule-II, July 2026. Applications are invited from eligible candidates for engagement to the posts of Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak in different offices of the Department of Posts.

India Post GDS Vacancy 2026:
The recruitment is being conducted for vacant Gramin Dak Sevak posts in different Circles and Divisions of the Department of Posts.
The posts covered under this recruitment are:
(i) Branch Postmaster (BPM)
(ii) Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)
(iii) Dak Sevak
Salary and Allowances:
Gramin Dak Sevaks are paid Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA). The TRCA carries an annual increase of 3%, subject to fulfilment of the conditions prescribed under the GDS Rules.
GDS employees are also entitled to Dearness Allowance and certain other allowances and social-security benefits, including GDS Gratuity and benefits under the Service Discharge Benefit Scheme.
The initial TRCA slabs are:
BPM: ₹12,000 to ₹29,380
ABPM/Dak Sevak: ₹10,000 to ₹24,470
Educational Qualification:
(i) Candidates applying for India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 must have passed the Secondary School Examination (10th standard) from a recognized Board of School Education.
(ii) The candidate must have passed Mathematics and English in the 10th standard. Candidates having an equivalent qualification from another board are not eligible under the notification.
(iii) Candidates must also have studied the local language up to at least the 10th standard from a recognized board. The prescribed local language depends on the Circle and post for which the candidate applies.
In addition to the educational qualification, candidates must have:
• Knowledge of computers.
• Knowledge of cycling.
• Adequate means of livelihood.
Age Limit:
The minimum age required to apply for the GDS posts is 18 years, while the maximum age is 40 years.
The age will be calculated as on the last date of submission of the online application.
Upper-age relaxation is available as follows:
SC/ST candidates: 5 years
OBC candidates: 3 years
EWS candidates: No age relaxation
PwBD candidates: 10 years
PwBD + OBC candidates: 13 years
PwBD + SC/ST candidates: 15 years.
Application Fee:
The application fee is ₹100 for applicants for the posts notified in their selected Division.
However, the application fee is free for:
• All female applicants
• SC applicants
• ST applicants
• PwBD applicants
• Transwomen applicants
Selection Process:
(i) One of the major attractions of the India Post GDS recruitment is that selection is not based on a conventional written examination.
(ii) Candidates will be shortlisted through a system-generated merit list. The merit list will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the Secondary School Examination (Class 10th) of recognized boards.
(iii) The marks will be aggregated into percentage with accuracy up to four decimal places.
(iv) For candidates whose marksheets contain grades or grade points, the Department has prescribed a conversion method. Where applicable, grade points are converted using the prescribed multiplication factor of 9.5. CGPA is also converted using the prescribed method.
(v) Therefore, candidates with higher Class 10 marks are likely to have an advantage in the merit-based selection process.
Documents Required for Verification:
Candidates do not have to upload documents along with the initial application form. However, shortlisted candidates will have to produce original documents during physical verification.
The documents may include:
• Class 10th marksheet
• Identity proof
• Caste certificate, where applicable
• PwBD certificate, where applicable
• EWS certificate, where applicable
• Transgender certificate, where applicable
• Date of Birth proof
• Medical certificate issued by a Government Hospital, Government Dispensary or Government Primary Health Centre
• Certificate relating to tribal/local language or dialect, wherever applicable.
How to Apply for India Post GDS Recruitment 2026:
(i) Eligible candidates have to apply online only through the official GDS Online Engagement Portal. Applications submitted through any other mode will not be accepted.
(ii) First, candidates have to complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) on the GDS Online Engagement Portal.
(iii) Candidates should keep an active mobile number, email ID and details of their Class 10th examination ready before starting registration. The mobile number and email ID will be verified through OTP and will be used by the Department for important communications.
(iv) During registration, candidates have to enter their personal details carefully. Their name, father's/guardian's name, mother's name and date of birth should be entered exactly as recorded in their Class 10th certificate. Incorrect information can result in cancellation of candidature.
(v) After successful registration, candidates will receive a registration number and password. They can then log in and complete the online application.
(vi) The application process includes entering educational details, selecting the Circle and Division, giving post preferences, uploading a recent photograph and signature, previewing the application and paying the fee wherever applicable.
Photograph and Signature Requirements:
(i) Candidates must upload a recent photograph in JPG/JPEG format, with a file size of 30 KB to 100 KB. The recommended photograph dimensions are 320 × 400 pixels, with a 4:5 aspect ratio and a plain white or light-coloured background. The face should occupy around 70–80% of the photograph.
(ii) The signature must also be uploaded in JPG/JPEG format, with a file size of 20 KB to 100 KB. The recommended dimensions are 300 × 120 pixels, with a 5:2 aspect ratio. The signature should be clear and written on white paper using a black or blue pen.
