The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the official notification for the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination, 2026 (SSC CHSL 2026). Through this examination, SSC will recruit eligible candidates for various Group C posts, including Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC)/Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), Data Entry Operator (DEO) and Data Entry Operator, Grade ‘A’, in various Ministries, Departments and Offices of the Government of India, as well as Constitutional Bodies, Statutory Bodies and Tribunals.

According to the notification, there are approximately 2,536 tentative vacancies. However, SSC has clearly stated that these vacancies are tentative and the final number of vacancies will be determined later after scrutiny of vacancy details received from the concerned User Departments. SSC does not collect State-wise/Zone-wise vacancy figures, so a separate number of SSC CHSL 2026 vacancies for Assam is not specified in this notice.

Eligible candidates can submit their applications online from 7 September 2026 to 7 October 2026 through the official SSC website. The last date for online application submission is 7 October 2026 up to 11:00 PM, while the last date for online fee payment is 8 October 2026 up to 11:00 PM.

SSC CHSL 2026 Vacancy Details

The examination is being conducted for recruitment to the following Group C posts:

1. Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC) / Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA)

Pay Level: Level-2

Pay Scale: ₹19,900 – ₹63,200 per month.


2. Data Entry Operator (DEO)

Pay Level: Level-4 and Level-5

Pay Scale: ₹25,500 – ₹81,100 for Level-4 and ₹29,200 – ₹92,300 for Level-5.


3. Data Entry Operator, Grade ‘A’

Pay Level: Level-4

Pay Scale: ₹25,500 – ₹81,100 per month.


Total Vacancies:

SSC has announced approximately 2,536 tentative vacancies. The final post-wise and category-wise vacancy position will be published subsequently. Importantly, SSC has stated that State-wise/Zone-wise vacancies are not collected by the Commission. Candidates requiring state-wise or zone-wise vacancy information are advised to approach the concerned User Departments.


Education Qualification:

Data Entry Operator (DEO) / DEO Grade ‘A’: 12th Standard pass in Science stream with Mathematics as a subject from a recognized Board or equivalent. 

LDC/JSA and DEO/DEO Grade ‘A’: 12th Standard pass or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University. 


Age Limit:

The age of candidates will be calculated as on 1 August 2026.

The prescribed age limit is:

Minimum Age: 18 years

Maximum Age: 27 years

Candidates should have been born not before 2 August 1999 and not later than 1 August 2008.


Age Relaxation:

Relaxation in the upper age limit is available as per Government of India rules:

SC/ST: 5 years

OBC: 3 years

PwBD: 10 years

PwBD (OBC): 13 years

PwBD (SC/ST): 15 years

Ex-Servicemen: 3 years after deduction of military service from actual age

Central Government Civilian Employees: up to 40 years

Central Government Civilian Employees belonging to SC/ST: up to 45 years

Widows/Divorced Women/Women judicially separated and not remarried: up to 35 years

SC/ST candidates in the above women category: up to 40 years.


Nationality/Citizenship:

A candidate must be:

• A citizen of India; or

• A subject of Nepal; or

• A subject of Bhutan; or

• A person of Indian origin who has migrated from specified countries with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Candidates belonging to certain non-Indian categories must possess the required certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.


Application Fee:

The application fee is ₹100/-.

However, the following candidates do not have to pay the application fee:

• Women candidates

• SC candidates

• ST candidates

• Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)

• Eligible Ex-Servicemen (ESM) candidates.

Candidates who are required to pay the fee can pay it online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, Visa, MasterCard, Maestro or RuPay Debit Cards. The online fee payment facility remains available up to 8 October 2026, 11:00 PM.


Application Correction Facility:

SSC will provide an application correction window from:

14 October 2026 to 16 October 2026 up to 11:00 PM.

A candidate can correct and resubmit the application up to two times during this correction window.

The correction charges are:

First correction: ₹200/-

Second correction: ₹500/-

The correction charges apply irrespective of gender or category.

After the correction window closes, no further correction or modification will be allowed.


SSC CHSL 2026 Exam Centres in Assam:

Assam falls under the jurisdiction of the North Eastern Region (NER) of SSC.

The notification lists the following examination centres in Assam:

Dibrugarh – 5102

Guwahati (Dispur) – 5105

Jorhat – 5107

Silchar – 5111

Tezpur – 5112

The same North Eastern Region also covers Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura.

Candidates have to provide three examination centre choices in order of priority within the same SSC Region. Once submitted, the centre choice cannot normally be changed later.


How to Apply for SSC CHSL Recruitment 2026

Candidates are required to submit the application online only through the new SSC website or the mySSC mobile application.

Step 1 – One-Time Registration: Click Here

Candidates who have not generated an OTR on the new SSC website must first complete One-Time Registration (OTR).

The OTR generated on the old SSC website will not be functional on the new website. Once an OTR is generated on the new website, it remains valid for examinations applied for through the new website.

Step 2 – Login

Login to the SSC online system using the registration number and password.

Step 3 – Select SSC CHSL 2026

Click the Apply link under the “Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination 2026” section under Latest Notifications.

Step 4 – Enter Educational Details

Enter the required details relating to the qualifying educational qualification, including passing year, roll number, percentage/CGPA and other required information.

Step 5 – Select Examination Centres

Candidates must select three examination centres in order of preference within the same SSC Region.

For Assam candidates, the listed centres include Dibrugarh, Guwahati (Dispur), Jorhat, Silchar and Tezpur.

Step 6 – Upload Photograph and Signature

The application system captures a live photograph of the candidate. Candidates should ensure proper lighting, a plain background, eye-level camera positioning and a clear frontal view. Candidates should not wear a cap, mask or spectacles while capturing the photograph.

Candidates are also required to upload their scanned signature in the prescribed JPEG/JPG format.

Step 7 – Preview and Submit

Before final submission, candidates should carefully check every detail entered in the application, including photograph, signature, educational qualification and other information.

After verifying the application, submit it online. Candidates should retain a copy of the application form for their records.

Step 8 – Pay Application Fee

Candidates who are not exempted from the application fee should pay the prescribed ₹100/- fee through the available online payment methods.
